If home is the feeling, the shimmering collection of furniture by husband and wife Grant Wilkinson and Teresa Rivera is a fitting representative of our collective anxiety. The design duo opts for swaying rather than the clean, straight lines in their collection of woodblocks—the Internet dubbed them “nervous chairs”—that seem to shiver with unease. Curved legs and arms provide base structure and back support with degrees of wrapped in the ever-growing line of products with its eponymous brand, which is known for putting updated twists on classic pieces. Rivera shares:
Our tastes can be very contemporary but we are fascinated by traditional techniques. We try to incorporate it into every piece: For Windsor, it flexes the backrest with steam. For La Silla, stick-weave the seats by hand. For our newest piece, Welsh Stick Chairs, we’ve included hand-carved malt swings.
Wilkinson and Rivera, who are based in Walthamstow, east London, will be releasing some new designs in the next few months, which you can view on Instagram, and shop their current collection through The Future Perfect.
