Nürburgring production facility and new partner

It’s been a minute since we heard something new about what we originally described as the “impossibly cool” De Tomaso P72 when it debuted in 2019 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. This reborn supercar from the 1960s stormed the hill that year amid agape jaws, and the company behind it, the reborn De Tomaso, promised to produce 72 units in the coming years.

If you thought an amazing debut is where the story ends, you’re wrong. De Tomaso has just revealed to us his progress into production, and what you may have seen as a fictional quest to resurrect a legend has become a whole process rushing toward its ultimate goal.

The biggest news is that De Tomaso has partnered with Capricorn Group and opened a completely new state-of-the-art facility at the Nürburgring where development and eventually production of the P72 will continue. De Tomaso originally intended to develop and produce the P72 in the United States, but you can thank Covid for blowing up the company’s timelines. When one door closes, another opens, and the completion of a production facility at the famous Nürburgring seems like a serious, world-class Plan B, and one without compromise. Construction of the building has already begun and will be completed this year.

“Today we are proud to announce a new strategic partnership that reaffirms our philosophy, strengthens our core competencies and ensures the highest quality for our future offerings,” said Norman Choi, Chairman of De Tomaso Automobili. on, but also produced in the legendary Nürburgring, providing our customers with unparalleled experience, quality and value.”

De Tomaso P72 update

You may not have heard of Capricorn before, but you have seen the cars he helped develop. Cars like the Le Mans title-winning Porsche 919 LMP1. For the P72, the Capricorn will be responsible for developing things like the vehicle’s vehicles, carbon chassis, suspension, and castings. It will also handle the production of vehicle development models and the final version for customers.

“The partnership allows us to collaborate with a globally recognized leader, streamlining our operations and our supply chain as with Capricorn, we can accommodate our composite operations, components and foundry without creating unnecessary burdens,” said Ryan Pearce, CEO/CEO of De Tomaso. “This allows us to preserve our true essence while continuing to incorporate the pinnacle of design, engineering, craftsmanship and materials into vehicles that enhance our principles and bear the true origin.”

De Tomaso also revealed improvements to the P72’s advanced carbon chassis that result in more head and legroom for the car’s occupants without changing its exterior dimensions. They’ve also lowered the car’s center of gravity to improve handling and stability.

Finally, the absolutely gorgeous look of the P72 isn’t just for show. De Tomaso tested and completed aerodynamics in collaboration with the authorities responsible for Toyota’s efforts in Formula 1 and LMP1, at the famous Toyota F1 wind tunnel in Cologne, Germany. The company is now beginning to produce “pre-series” prototypes with a new goal of delivering cars to customers in early 2023.
