Alynda Segarra previewed Hurray’s upcoming single for Riff Raff’s album with a new single, “Pierced Arrows.” Following on from previous shows “Rhododendron” and “Jupiter’s Dance,” the track arrives along with a video directed by New Orleans artist Lucia Honey. Check it out below.
According to Segarra, “Perforated Arrows” is “a sad song that gets lost in the realm of memory. Being stuck in the past, finding the rapidly changing world strange and strange. Trying to move past the trauma. Finding a meeting place between the hard and the tender. Bringing back the memory within you/by your side, which leads to fight-or-flight responses.”
Of the video, Hani added: “We have been inspired by artistic cinema since the turn of the millennium. Run Lola RunAnd Requiem for a dreamAnd My own Idaho. We wanted “Perforated Arrows” to have a gritty narrative feel but that still be steeped in a surreal aesthetic. The song fits the climax of the narration. The first time I heard it, I felt like I was in the middle of a brewing storm. I couldn’t escape noting Hurricane Ida, which hit southern Louisiana hard in late August. This blends in well with themes from Alynda’s song which is very much about escaping the past that always catches up with you. Hence the physical running in the industrial landscape. Metal. training grounds. escape. cold anxiety Being stuck in a shock loop.”
