When do you have lunch?

Before I get to that window of two to three hours of afternoon physical therapy work, I’ll have lunch or grab a quick snack. I’ll have another snack while I play with my kids.

For snacks, I love Justin’s Almond Butter. Otherwise, I’ll get poached eggs, parfait, trail mix, (although not necessarily a snack) I love kombucha. One of the advantages of having a chef is that he makes different superfood bars all the time, which is great. If I want to be bigger in terms of protein depending on where I am in a particular cycle, it can take that into account. It all depends on the time of year and what we’re trying to achieve. For the actual lunch, I like a good salad with chicken and vegetables. If it’s not a salad, it’s really just a nutrient-dense, quality and well-balanced meal.

Have you always been in touch with this about your nutrition?

honestly Yes. Nutrition has been something I’ve focused on since college, thanks to our dietitian that we worked with in Nebraska. He taught me how to perform well and work smart as a young man who drank and wanted to have fun. As I progressed to the professional level, I really took what I put in my body to the next level with our performance coach. We’ll test the nutritional assessment to see how my body reacts to different foods, making sure I’m getting all the micronutrients I need. I know what treats my body well and what doesn’t, so we can try to stay away from those different things or eat them in moderation.

What are you trying to get in moderation?

Well, I love Snickers and Peanut M&Ms, but knowing how my body works, I try to stay away from things like that. I don’t want to overdo it. And in the off-season, it’s when we really try and try different things to see how I respond, whether that’s switching to keto, vegan, vegan, or something else.

I think your routine has changed since you and your wife gave birth to twins in March 2021.

There are a lot of challenges with two kids, but I enjoyed every part of it. I love it when I come home and see them. Now that they are 10 months old, when I walk in the door their faces light up. But when it comes to sleep, it’s tough. Nights are definitely too late.

till when?

Last year, my wife and I slept no later than 7 or 7:30. We enjoyed talking and TV for a few hours, and then fell asleep at 9 or 9:30. Now, the kids go to bed at 7 or 7:30, so by the time we clean the house and do our work together, we don’t get into the bedroom until 9 or 9:30. You sleep by 10:30, turn around and need to get up at 6 in the morning. Life is about kids for sure, which is cool but also different.

What do you eat for dinner?

It depends on the night and again, we are very lucky to have the chef. It could be Mexican night, Greek night, Italian, Asian night. Sometimes, if we wanted fried chicken, Chef Luke would deliver it.

Not everyone can have a chef – but what’s your advice based on what makes you do well?

What I’m going to say is that you have to focus on you. There is no perfect exercise for everyone. The ideal exercise is requested for this individual. Look at your performance from all angles — the nutrition side, the recovery side, the training side — and then make a plan that takes all of these things into account.
