Where did A$AP Rocky find a jacket from a Catholic high school in New Jersey?

A night with A$AP Rocky and Rihanna is always a treat for the rest of us. On Monday, the Nobu couple dressed up in West Hollywood wearing, for real, aggressively cool outfits. For her part, Ree wore an oversized gray tracksuit with short heels by Prada. Next to her was Rocky, in blue wide-legged jeans (which turned out to be a big week for Nobu’s baggy jeans), an Études printed hoodie I’m spyingPattern with photos of artist Martin Sims (currently on sale!), and some really fireworks: a pair of Ugg Tasman loafers, which are sold on their site. Lest we forget, the A$AP loves the flame insignia; See his custom collection on the Prada Tour in 2019 as well as his latest collaboration with Vans, which debuts again at Pacsun this week.

So, sweat and slippers to Nobu? Check, check.

But the real masterpiece of Rocky’s outfit was a mustard yellow college jacket. At first, commenters under a fitting photo posted by @asaprockydotcom wondered who had done it — before it emerged that the A$AP was wearing a 2003 St. An actual private catholic high school in central New Jersey. SJV alumni flocked to the post to comment on his outerwear, wondering more or less, Where the hell did he get this from?

It’s kind of a supernatural origin that evokes the story behind Rocky’s ERL Met Gala cape, made by designer Eli Russell Linnetz and quilt maker Zack Foster from a vintage Linnetz quilt found at a thrift store near Venice Beach. A few days after the party, a woman named Sarah shared a photo on Instagram showing the Rocky quilt along with a photo made by her great-grandmother. Sarah wrote, “When I saw the #metgala photo, I immediately knew it had to be the same as the quilt.” Later, Lenitz photographed Sarah and her family with the quilt. (Linnetz also filmed our latest cover story featuring MLB star Shohei Ohtani—check it out here.)

As for Rocky’s (almost certain) latest discovery, one commentator suggested: “Can we get the SJV x A$AP/AWGE collaboration??”
