Europe records 75 million cases of COVID virus as it prepares to face Omicron: Live | Corona virus pandemic news

However, the rise in the prevalence of COVID-19 infections in the UK in the last week has been driven by the dominant delta formula rather than Omicron.

Europe has passed 75 million cases of coronavirus, according to a Reuters news agency count, as the region prepares for the new Omicron variant at a time when hospitals in some countries are already strained by the current surge.

The UK’s Office for National Statistics said the rise in the prevalence of COVID-19 infections in the UK in the last week was driven by the dominant delta formula rather than Omicron.

Meanwhile, the death toll from COVID-19 in Russia has reached at least 578,020 people, the third worst in the world, according to Reuters calculations based on official statistics for October, the country’s deadliest month to date.

In the Netherlands, health authorities said they were concerned that some passengers who arrived from South Africa last week tested positive for COVID-19 on arrival despite being vaccinated and tested negative before leaving their flight.

South Africa’s health minister said the country is experiencing a fourth wave of infections driven by the new variant detected in seven of the country’s nine provinces.

In the United States, the Omicron variant has now been reported in at least nine states including Utah, Missouri and Nebraska, which have reported at least six cases.

Here are the latest updates for Saturday:

Utah reports the state’s first confirmed case of the Omicron variant

The US State Department of Health said Friday that Utah has reported its first confirmed case of COVID-19 caused by the Omicron variant.

“The case was discovered through continuous genetic sequencing of positive COVID-19 samples at the Utah Public Health Laboratory,” the state health department said on social media.

The Omicron variant is now reported in at least nine US states.

The US state of Missouri reported the first version of Omicron

Missouri has detected its first case of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus in a St. Louis resident who recently traveled locally, according to the state health department.

Earlier, Nebraska also reported the Omicron variant after discovering six confirmed cases of the highly contagious strain.

12 new variant cases of Omicron have been reported in Canada

Public health officials said Canada has detected a total of 12 cases of the new Omicron variant of COVID-19 and that trends in severe illness across the country may begin to rise again.
