Eric Weddell is coming out of retirement to sign with Ramez

The Los Angeles Rams reunited before the Wild Card game, luring safety Eric Weddle from retirement to be on the playoffs list.

Weddell, 37, played only one season with the Rams before hanging up his cleats. Prior to that 2019 campaign, he played nine seasons with the San Diego Chargers and three seasons for the Baltimore Ravens, racking up 29 interceptions for 467 yards with eight forced tackles, four seasons on return and 1,179 tackles combined.

The decision to bring Weddle back wasn’t, of course, just nostalgic. The Rams are heading into their wild cards game against the Arizona Cardinals without the actual safety of Jordan Fuller, who will miss the entirety of the pre-season due to an ankle injury he suffered last weekend’s 27-24 overtime loss to San Francisco 49ers.

Fuller’s leadership is sure to be lost as the Los Angeles defense tries to recover from a disappointing season-ending loss to the Niners, but they’re certainly hopeful that Weddle can fill the void when they host Arizona on Monday night.

The Rams defeated the Cardinal 30-23 in the team’s last regular season game on December 13.
