Sonny Bill Williams joins Tyson Fury’s camp before facing Barry Hall boxing

Sonny Bill Williams will join World Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury for an intense training camp as he plots to take Barry Hall into a blockbuster boxing fight at Stan on March 23.

Williams, a retired double code champion, is now laser focused on taking his boxing career to the next level and the opportunity to work with British superstar Fiori is like gold.

“For the first time in my professional sports career, I’m completely focused on boxing,” Williams said when the ‘Turf War’ match was confirmed for ICC Sydney.

The TURF WAR Pay-Per-View Battle at Stan’s Event will be available for any Stan customer to purchase for $50. New customers of Stan can sign up for a 30-day free trial and then purchase the fight as it becomes available. Fans can register their interest by click here!

“My focus on winning this fight begins with the tremendous opportunity to join the world’s biggest name in boxing, Tyson Fury, at his UK training camp right away, to make sure I am 100 per cent ready for this fight.

“I know Barry Hall is a very tough guy and his debut (against Paul Gallen) proved he has a lot of skill, but he lacks experience in the ring and is nowhere near my level.

“This fight against Hall begins the final chapter of my athletic career and I’m going to move on with this win and I’ll move on to more big fights over the next 24-36 months.”

Williams has scored 8-0 in boxing, including three knockout matches, and this will be his first match since June of last year.

Details of the fight come as Stan announced the expansion of its sports coverage with the addition of the Stan event, a new pay-per-view show.

The fighters will go toe-to-toe over 10 three-minute rounds, and tonight will also see a bottom card stacked with no fewer than five professional matches in the lead up to the main event.

“I mentioned this before – I want to fight 5-10 fights,” Williams said today.

“But for it to pay off, I have to beat Barry.

“We will leave no stone unturned on this trip. Starting tonight, I will be flying to the UK. Joe Parker and Tyson Fury have invited me to do some training with them there.

“When I had this opportunity I couldn’t say no, just to learn from the best. It shows my commitment to this sport, this fight. He (Fury) is the best medium in the world right now, the best fighter of our generation, and the ability to rub shoulders with him… Just to see his mentality.”

“This announcement highlights another major milestone for Stan, as Turf War is set to be one of Australia’s biggest sporting events in 2022,” said Martin Coogler, acting chief executive of Stan.

“We are thrilled to launch Stan Event, our new pay-per-view show, and to showcase this epic heavyweight match.

“Sonny Bill Williams and Barry Hall are two of the biggest names in Australian sport and we have no doubts that this will be an unforgettable night for the fans.”
