12% of Irish adult internet users own a cryptocurrency study.

12% of adult Irish internet users, or an estimated 456,000 people, said they own cryptocurrency in the December survey, up from 8% in October — up four percentage points according to the latest cryptocurrency adoption index from Finder.com.

However, Ireland is still slightly behind the global average of 15%, ranking 20th in cryptocurrency ownership out of the 27 countries included in the study.

Bitcoin remains the most popular coin to own (5%), followed by Ethereum and Dogecoin (3% each), and XRP (2%).

The report reveals that around a quarter of Irish adults (26%) think cryptocurrency is a good investment – ​​well below the global average (43%).

However, 64% of Irish adults know what cryptocurrency is, compared to 85% in Australia and 68% in Vietnam.

Bitcoin adoption in Ireland

Bitcoin is probably the most popular name in the cryptocurrency world, which is probably why 39.1% of cryptocurrency owners globally said they have BTC in their wallets. For Ireland, BTC ownership came in above the global average, with 44.3% of crypto owners saying they own BTC.

This places Ireland 9th out of 27 countries. Of the five currencies we asked about in our survey (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, Solana, and Ripple), Bitcoin ranks as the number one choice for cryptocurrency holders in Ireland.

Between now and the last survey, the number of crypto owners surveyed who said they owned BTC fell from 59.9% of respondents who said they owned Bitcoin in October to 44.3% in December.

Popularity of Ethereum with Cryptocurrency Owners in Ireland

ETH ranks as Ireland’s second choice cryptocurrency with 26.7% of cryptocurrency owners owning Ethereum, which is higher than the global average of 24.4%. This places Ireland 12th in terms of ETH ownership.

Ownership of DOGE in Ireland

Ireland ranks fourth in DOGE ownership globally, with 23.9% saying they own memecoin, higher than the global average of 18.5%. Regarding its popularity among cryptocurrency holders in Ireland, DOGE ranks third.

Adoption of Solana in Ireland

During our December survey, we also decided to ask whether respondents in Ireland owned Solana. Solana ranks fifth among the most popular coins, with 11.3% of cryptocurrency owners saying they own the coin, which is lower than the global average of 15.5%.

Ripple’s fame in Ireland

Ripple is the fourth most popular currency in Ireland, with 14.9% of cryptocurrency owners saying they own Ripple. The global average for Ripple ownership is 16.8%, which puts Ireland below the world average.
